This is for Nini's wedding. Two months ago, she wrote me emails and asked if I can make a wedding cake for her. At that time, I was not sure if I would visit China in October, so I couldn't promise her nor start planning on this cake yet. Then, later in September, we finally decided to cancel the trip, and I could actually start working on this project. Time was running out, but I got stuck with another project for Chinese Mid-autumn Festival: moon cake making. I spent almost 2 weeks on the moon cake experiments, so this cake project was delayed again...

I started making the roses on Oct. 1, only a week before the wedding day, which is kind of rush for me because I have to work everyday, and can only spend the evening hours on my hobbies. For the whole week, I worked on the sugar flowers from 8 pm till 2 am and then got up for work on the next day. Finally, I finished this cake on the wedding day and was able to deliver it two hours earlier before the wedding banquet started.

The 6" small cake is actually a dummy... Nini said she only needed to serve 75 people, so she planned to order a two-layer cake of 9" and 12". But I suggested having an extra layer using a dummy to make the cake taller, this way, the cake looks more like a "wedding cake" and would be also easier for me to do the decorating. Since her wedding was in fall, I decided to paint the roses into heavy red and purple colors to show the colorful impression of the season. Let me wish her a beautiful and romantic life with her hubby, happily ever after.
