This is specially designed for Arielle, my 2-yr-old daughter. It's inspired by the Goldfish Cracker. This is to celebrate her 2 yr-old birthday, so I decided to make a two-layered cake.

The cake board was cut from a big box and covered with fondant to stand for ocean, and then used gum paste to make a lot of waves on the bottom of the cake. The cakes were frosted with butter cream icing first, then covered with fondant.

Those 10 figures are miniatures of the real things owned by Arielle for the past 2 years to record her growth: the bottle, the blanket I knitted for her, the yellow teether (her first toy), the panda hair ring we bought in National Zoo at D.C., the little book, The big teddy bear that sleeps with her every night, the hat she wears everyday, the Kitty bag my friend gave her, the duckling she plays when taking bath, and the last is our lovely cat "Tun-tun".

It's very challenging making these tiny figures... I need to use a toothpick to help doing all the details. And it's very annoying when the gum paste catches the small fibers on the desktop or in the air. Normally, I'd need to waste a small portion of the gum paste to clean out the desktop and my fingers to get rid of the fibers.

I love the colorful swirls on the cake, they enlighten the tone of the cake. I also love the small flower that I made for the fish eye. It's a cute eye, as well as a lovely flower!

Of course my little Arielle knows nothing about the meaning of this cake, but she can recognize those tiny figures on the cake. And she can even dig into her toy box and get you the real toy when you ask her what's this? I feel more than happy that she can recognize everything, and probably that's the greatest reward for all the efforts I did. I took pictures of all the details and wish someday when she saw it, she could understand how much I love her!!
